If continuity is as fluid now as it seems to be, having left behind the Gruenwald rigid hold on both past events and powers comparisons, then doesn't it kind of lessen the hero and his characteristics too easily? If an Author wishes it, he can change or undo any events and even the very powers of a character; for example,PAk pushed Hulk to full immunity from Telepathy, Gamma Draining and almost anything save maybe high level Magic. Aaron took away Hulk's water-breathing. Waid gave him superspeed

That’s not really any different than what went down during Mark’s era, where the Hulk went from just having extremely tough, durable skin to instead having rapid-healing of an almost Wolverine variety. Different creators interpret the characters differently, and so long as the editor approves it, all within the acceptable tolerances of the Marvel Comics Group.
Heck, Thor used to pull strange one-time powers out of thin air in virtually every issue in his earliest days. And remember when the Sub-Mariner could shoot lightning or expand himself like a puffer fish?
