  • "You may or may not know that I write pretty lengthy proposed outlines for the books I write. Most of the time, those outlines get shredded right away, leaving the floor scattered with a carpet of awesome ideas that I can't revisit. The editor yells, "Pull!" and I throw the idea out like a clay pigeon to be blasted from the sky. Right now, I'm hoping to wrap up a few dangling plot lines for "Magneto" Wow that just made me real sad that writers have to put up with Editorial mandates like that

You pulled that quote completely out of context, you know, to say nothing of distorting its tone. Read it again in the context of that interview, and you’ll see that this is just Cullen being funny. The question he was asked was about whether a mutant character not associated with his series wold be appearing in his series, and he said, in essence, that he likes that character and would be up for it, but he didn’t know what the larger plans for that character were, which might prevent whatever he might want to do. That’s not quite the same as “Editorial mandates”, that’s certain books having the “right of way” on the development of certain characters, because it’s a story that they are telling.
