But as you’d expect, competition for any position is fierce. I don’t know what your background or experience is, but it may simply not be as strong as the background or experience of other people.

Rather than crying about baseless charges of nepotism, it would be more positive for you to get out there and improve your resume by adding additional skills and work experiences to it. That might be what makes the difference next time.
