I can imagine that Marvel wouldn't try to roll over someone for writing a fan fic, but what if someone draws a fully fleshed out comic with Marvel characters in it, simply to present it to other people without getting any kind of profit for it. On top of that with establishing the fact that the characters belong to Marvel and that there is no profit being made. Would Marvel leave it be, or take it down, simply because someone created such a comic and posted it online so that people can read it?
I’m not a lawyer, but what you’re asking me here is essentially, “Is there some way I can violate Marvel’s copyrights and trademarks and not get dinged for it?” And my answer, of course, is going to be: no, of course not.
I would suggest that rather than putting all of that time and effort into doing something that might get you in hot water and that you’ll be very limited in your ability to show around, you instead put that energy into creating your own thing. Make a comic! And then, you won’t have to worry about any of this, and you may be surprised by the response to the work and the opportunities it opens up.
