>I was excited to see Hank Pym, one of my favorite characters, will be getting used again, but was disappointed to see the story will again revolve around his mental problems. I know writers will pitch stories, but shouldn’t an editor say, “Hey, you know we’ve covered that in every single Hank Pym story since the Shooter Assassination of the character; maybe we could try some different take?”
Even when writers do something to move the character past that (going all the way back to Englehart/Thomas/Byrne in WCA/Avengers West to most recently Slott/Gage in Avengers Initiative/Academy and heck even somewhat in Avengers AI), the next time we see the character, it’s back to the same old story. Surely the editors can encourage something else be done with the character, can’t you?
It seems to be this vicious cycle where it’s the only story that gets done about the character because it’s supposedly the only interesting thing about him because it’s the only story that gets done about him. Whatever happened to the Scientist Supreme take on him? Now *THAT* was interesting! (Or the Byrne scientific adventurer angle with the cool shrinking-other-things powers, though that’s way more dated. Still was awesome though.)>
You can’t force a creator to like the same things about a character that you do, and you shouldn’t force a creator to try to follow your take on a character–nothing good typically comes from it.
Also, you’re making a pretty big assumption about an upcoming story based on relatively little.
