For example, under Bendis, the Avengers just throw Vision’s remains in a box until Stark starts “tinkering” with him, which seems like the ultimate toaster treatment. Wouldn’t a simple editor’s note get the same result of writing out the character for a while but not devalue him? As you point out, after that treatment, why would anyone who wasn’t already a big fan of the character care when he came back?>

    You can’t force a creator to like a character, and you shouldn’t force a creator to use a character–the results are not often pretty.
