Tom, I've been married 15 years, and in that time, neither Marvel, DC, or IDW has tried cheap comics. Currently I spend $0 on new comics (I shop discount bins and used book sites). Every time I've decided to follow a title "live" I've regretted it, for value reasons. But if they were significantly cheaper, I guarantee I'd be plunking down at least $40 a month for me and another $20 or so for my kids every month. Aren't there more people out there like me?
There are perhaps some people like you, but not enough to offset the revenue loss from reducing cover prices. And, of course, while you buy discounted comics, you don’t buy just anything–you pick and choose based on what you’re interested in, even at that lower price. The point being that the price alone is not enough to get you and keep you.
