New Brevoort Formspring

So, when was it officially established that Spider-Man's spider-sense was public knowledge? Because it seems as if it used to be a secret - he mentioned it being so in my memory as late as the 90s - but then in Busiek's run on UNTOLD TALES he mentions it in a public fight. Was there any moment where this was specifically addressed or is it as simple as individual creators not knowing off the top of their heads?

This has been inconsistently treated going all the way back to Stan’s days.
So in theory, it’s a secret, in that it’s not something that he advertises. Except for all of the times where he advertises it by talking about it publicly.
