First of all, thanks for taking the time to share your insights on here, it’s much appreciated. My question – do you recognize a critical bias towards creator owned comics? There is a lot of great creator owned work around but it sometimes seems that unpolished, occasionally self-indulgent work gets praised in a way it wouldn’t if coming from a big publisher. It’s almost as if the perceived nobility of the creator owned model trumps all else. Does this frustrate you?
I don’t know if that’s quite true, at least among the audience as a whole. There’s certainly that feeling among a certain spectrum of the audience, and always has been. But for the most part, creator-owned books don’t move units in the same sorts of quantities as Marvel books by the same creators–so I don’t really have anything to be frustrated about. People liking a creator-owned book doesn’t affect my business one way or the other, not in any material way.
