  • Why has the Death Penalty only been used on a supervillain once that I can remember? (Spider-Slayer) If the MU government is willing to build robots to kill innocent mutant civilians because they see them as a threat, and try to kill Superheroes whenever they go against the government, then they should be more than willing to kill actual threats that are more dangerous than Smythe when they have them in custody, especially with all those breakouts, like the Red Skull.

    The real reason, of course, is that we’re going to need those villains again in the months and years to come.

    At a certain point, you can poke at this stuff too far. People who can fly through the air and lift battleships exist. It’s not really a stretch at that point to believe that, for whatever reason, the citizens and politicians of the Marvel Universe do not favor a death penalty.
