At any given time, there are some Marvel series that have low sales and seem in danger of being canceled-- usually new series that failed to catch on. Do you think it's plausible that Marvel could ever get to a point where every title sold reasonably well and even the lowest-selling title wasn't in danger? And what would you do then? Would you keep adding more and more titles to see what would stick?
There was a point in the 1980s when pretty much everything Marvel was publishing was profitable–and at that point, the weaker-selling titles were still routinely pruned away, the notion being that the time and effort being spent on those books could probably be spent on something else that would sell better. It’s this that led to the demise of series such as DEFENDERS and POWER MAN AND IRON FIST.
