Seems like when the Avengers as a group guest-star in a title, it's typically the characters you'd think of as the "main" Avengers (i.e. Cap, Thor), and never the more peripheral characters (i.e. Cannonball or Shang-Chi). Any reason for that? I get that you'd want some recognizable characters, but why not include one or two characters who are full-fledged Avengers but seem to barely show up even in their own team's title? After all, they're just as much members of the Avengers.
The characters guest star that the writer of that story wants to have guest star, it’s really as simple as that. So when it comes to the Avengers, more writers want to see Cap or Iron Man or Thor in those circumstances and interacting with their character or storyline than Sunspot or Shang Chi.
