I have to call bullshit on that one retailer or at least on his customers. How can you have "too many non-Avengers characters" in AVENGERS? If they're in the book, then they are Avengers.

It’s all a matter of perspective. To some people, certain characters are “legitimate” Avengers and some aren’t. After almost a decade , guys like Spidey & Wolvie are still contraversial.
