Events: As a reader of 45 years, I can tell you events do bring in new readers for the same reason team books like the Avengers and Justice League originally did and still do, because new readers can find many of a publishers marquis characters all in one spot. And if something momentous is happening to them, like they're being murdered one by one or all their secret identities are being exposed, that intrigues new readers more than if those things happened to just Iron Man or Batman alone.
