Our lower sales on Avengers books are not due to price. When Brian Bendis was writing the franchise, we lost many long-time readers, but picked up new readers. When Mr. Hickman took over, the long-time readers were put off with the direction and we lost several fans of Mr. Bendis. On the other hand, the Justice League franchise is selling very well for us. The Avengers franchise should be too, but we hear a lot more complaints than praise, unfortunately.
Well, I think that’s all fair. Different creators and stories are going to resonate differently with the audience.
We picked up a bunch of sales during INFINITY, as you’d expect, and now that’s settling down a bit again.
But I expect that’s all going to change once we get to ORIGINAL SIN and then September–and one we hit next April, there’ll be people scooping the whole run up in singles or in trades or digitally.
It’s very much the structure and the rhythm of previous Hickman projects, where there’s a long build to a series of massive explosions. The ones that are coming up ahead are about as big as they could possibly get.
Regardless, thanks very much for the feedback from your shop!
