hand to god i can't think of a better comic than Moore's Swamp Thing. And that is a book that both reveled in past continuity and shattered old preconceived notions about the character and storytelling in general. I just don't understand why your creators (and definitely DC's with their line wide reboot) can't do anything close to that level these days. Why can't you guys combine that rich history and a fresh take into a lovely little gumbo of storytelling?

I’d have to disagree with you on a couple of points here. First off, Moore’s SWAMP THING didn’t revel in past continuity–in fact, it erased whole swaths of stories in order to make it’s central conceit work. (They’re just stories that nobody especially cared about in comparison to what came thereafter–but it did happen.) Moore’s SWAMP THING did use the DC Universe of that time period, but didn’t do all that much that was continuity-based.

And as much as I like that run, I think that there have been numerous runs on other titles since those days in 1984 that are equally good. But some of what you’re talking about is taste, and Moore’s SWAMP THING (And Bisette’s, and Totleben’s, and Veitch’s, and et cetera’s) may simply be more to your personal taste than other things that have been done since.
