  • I buy Uncanny and All New X-Men, every issue since #1, and if I didn't read previews I would've missed most of the current all-new x-men story because my store sold out of the Guardians issues which I'm sure you guys will take as a victory even though it's part of what's killing the industry. I say this because it bugs me that you and other marvel writers complain about fans reading solicits because it's a part of the culture that Marvel more so that any other company continues to cultivate.

First off, I don’t take your store selling out as any kind of a victory–I’d like your store to be ordering more copies, especially if demand is outstripping supply. But that’s something that you as a customer can affect, at least in part, by letting your retailer know when you can’t find something that you want, or when he’s sold out of a book that you’d buy.

We were very aggressive in promoting that X-MEN/GUARDIANS crossover, though–both issues were part of the ALL-NEW MARVEL NOW promotion, and featured in the insert ads we ran in the books, as well as more general advertising all over the place.

I certainly don’t mind that you found out about it by reading the solicits.

I do think that in 90% of all cases, at least, we’d get the same results and sell the same number of copies (or more!) if our solicits said less–if you had to read the books to find out what was going to happen, rather than Comics TV Guide. But that’s just my opinion.
