You get a lot of flack for not catering the stories to fit the precise tastes of people who have been reading the books for decades, and instead trying to keep the stories as accessible and interesting as possible. I get that, and it makes sense. But given how large the line is, why is it inconceivable to occasionally throw out one or two books that are consciously "old school" for the "old school" fans who say they still want that style? You sell lots of books for different demographics . . .

I think we throw out more books than that which are catered to those fans every month.
The issue is that they may not be the books that a given fan wants to be done in that manner.
We do a wide variety of material in a wide variety of styles.
