I think that the notion that every story needs to account for every character in the Marvel Universe (or any comics cosmology) is one of those things that’s done a ton of harm to the storytelling in comics. If it’s a Spider-Man story, then spending a lot of time accounting for all of the characters who aren’t Spider-Man is simply taking up real estate for bookkeeping. Bookkeeping seldom makes for good stories.
