Although the image is pretty straightforward, I'm asking because the Grey and Gold armors've been also shown with different design (e.g: kilt) and Gold having better arsenal and tech, similar differences make movies' MK II and MK III different armors
The classic red-and-gold armor was around for years and years, and had different weapons and equipment added to it and developed for it over that time. And it didn’t get a different designation every time Tony put a thermocouple into it, or reworked it so that the whole thing collapsed into the chest plate, or whatever.
