  • Well, that was just my personal opinion. Unlike other people, I admit that Bendis is not doing a bad job with the guardians. However I wanted to ask. What led Marvel to put Hickman as the Avengers main writer? From my point is view is a really big jump going from Bendis to Hickman, because of their different writing style. Was there any fear that the sales might not be very good?

No, not at all. In every instance, you bring in the person you think will be able to do the book best, and who will bring something new to it. Nobody else does precisely what Brian does, and trying to copy his approach would just have left us with a bunch of weak-sauce comics. Jonathan proved his ability to write scale and to write heart on assignments like FANTASTIC FOUR, as well as showing that he can play the long game where his stories build over time, one atop the next, to a huge climax. All of these were valuable skills for an AVENGERS writer. And my guess is that the next AVENGERS writer, whoever and whenever that is, will be completely different, because nobody else does precisely what Jonathan does.
