Regarding numbering - Would it make sense to do away with an explicit sense of sequential arcs? Like, every time there's a creative team change starting a new arc, there's a new #1 and readers are free to place the story in continuity wherever they wish. It reinforces the arc as a separate story unit and gives the writer an "out" if there's no natural way to accommodate a publisher-wide event. For instance, I thought "Age Of Ultron" forced "Fantastic Four" into a terribly clumsy digression.
That begins to sound like chaos to me, though. One of the appeals of the Marvel Universe is the fact that all of the characters and events transpire within the same continuum. I suspect that you’d alienate more readers by moving in this direction than you’d service.
