It is good public relations. But more crucially, it’s good talent relations. What we do isn’t science, it’s alchemy, it’s art–and that means that you can sometimes combine a bunch of elements that sound good and come up with something that isn’t working as you’d expect. (The converse is also true–sometimes you can combine unlikely elements and get a massive success out of nowhere.) It’s a no-fault sort of a thing, it happens–so rather than getting all crazy about it, the best thing to do is to find a way to manage everybody out of it and then tackle the problem from a different angle. Nobody needs for there to be more mediocre comics in the world because things just aren’t jelling as everybody had hoped.
