loved the recent cbr article you did with hickman and loved some of hickmans answer about jumping on points for new readers I love you tom and love marvel but some of the old school marvel editorial is behind in the times. I know it was stan the man motto that every marvel comic may be someone first but in todays world and just from reading messgae baords and people that come inot my store not every book needs to follow this rule all thet time ,

I’m sorry, but that’s crap. Asking any reader to have to do homework in order to understand a story that they’re reading is ridiculous. Imagine asking the same of a film or a novel or a television show. Absurd! Storytelling is what we do, and the heart of storytelling is communicating necessary information. being able to access the Internet may make it easier for people to make up the difference when we fall down, but the shift away from a need to be direct and clear in storytelling led to ten or fifteen years of landfills full of comics that few could understand or care about. What you’re talking about is the faithful, the people who are already on the ride and already come into a comic book knowing a lot about the characters and the world. And those people are great, we love ‘em. But the surest road to oblivion for you and me and your store is for us to focus on and cater to those people at the expense of the wider potential audience that’s out there.
