On this ongoing topic of numbering: could you ever see Marvel going to a system like BPRD used to have, where the issues in every arc were numbered #1, 2, etc on the cover, and on the inside cover, it would say, "Number 53 in a series"? The All-New Marvel Now! covers with the big #1s for the first issue of an arc seem like a step in that direction. It could satisfy the tradition big number fans like and the accessibility new #1 fans like.
I suppose it’s possible, but it seems like whenever this topic gets discussed, there are inevitably exasperated fans who go, “Why don’t you just number everything #1 all the time then!” or similar sentiments about having no number, or numbering by volume number or whatever–acting as though there is a problem that must be solved, whereas in reality there really isn’t. There’s a situation that continues to evolve, but there’s no urgent dilemma concerning the numbering of the books that needs to be unilaterally corrected. So sure, we could do what you’re talking about, and maybe that’s where things will evolve to one day. But it’s not like we’re going to suddenly go one month, “Hey, I know! Let’s change everything around and do it this way!” It’s a non-problem.
