When discussing replacing issue numbers with a dating system, isn't the problem that a lot of comics ship twice in the same month while others might skip a month? It seems essential to me that with comics' sequential storytelling there is a numbering system, even if it's one that restarts regularly. Putting a date on the cover would just lead to more confusion in my mind.
