Re: Psionex: I asked the original question but was a bit disappointed by your answer. Where in the world did you see me say I wanted the series to repeat stories? Unless you think every FF story that has Dr. Doom is repeating stories, or X-Men with Magneto, or Avengers with Ultron, or Cap with Red Skull or Thor with Loki and so on and so forth,  I’m baffled. Psionex were a great NW antagonist and I’d argue very identified with the classic (i.e. most successful) version of the team. I’d hope (and am confident that) Yost can come up with something new for a great bunch of characters.

I think the difference here is that you’re talking about titles and characters and series that have continued on unbroken for decades, and comparing that to a series that has been, at best, stop-and-start. The FF fighting Doom again works because FF as a series has been self-sustaining for so long–whatever has been done in that series has allowed it to continue on and on indefinitely. The same cannot be said for NEW WARRIORS. Yes, Psionex was a cool bunch of characters, but my point is that it’s much more important that the new iteration of NEW WARRIORS establish itself and whatever individual patch of ground that it occupies than it is that they revisit characters and stories from iterations of the series that ended long ago. I feel that, more than anything, this is why a number of our revivals of older characters and series fail–that they get too locked into the material and minutiae of the past, and aren’t focused enough on establishing the characters and premise of the book in the present.
