I cannot imagine any time in Marvel history, apart from very early on when there were just a few titles (and even then, excluding the non-super-hero ones), in which one could "follow the entire Marvel line with the money a kid made on a generous allowance." That would have had to be a really, really generous allowance, and/or a lot of lawns to mow.

When I was in my early teens, I was able to follow the full Marvel and DC lines, and could still scrape together money for back issues. So that guy isn’t wrong.
