  • Tom, I'm indifferent on the Beyonder retcon this, but I have to cry foul when you say "you can’t simply ignore the stories you don’t like as though they hadn’t happened." Writers do this all the time, and with your approval. It's why many posters gripe about Marvel ignoring continuity. The examples of this are endless. I'll give you one: the Odinsword was destroyed by the Celestials and then Fraction just decided he wanted it back, so poof! it reappeared with no explanation.

Well, the difference here is that we get to make up the stories, and you as readers don’t. So we get to choose what we want to follow up on and what we don’t. But when you’re arguing about what a character can and can’t do, or what’s been established about them, you can’t overlook stories that have been done. It’s not an equal set-up, I admit, but then it doesn’t have to be–the storyteller is always going to have more power over the story than the audience. As for the Odinsword, the whole of Asgard perished in Ragnarok and was reincarnated–it’s not much of a stretch to figure that the Odinsword was likewise reforged.
