When I was a kid you could follow the entire Marvel line with the money a kid made on a generous allowance - maybe with some extra lawn mowing on top. That's not the world we live in anymore. So why should I bother reading any, then?

For the same reason you would have then: because you’re interested in the stories and the characters. But you didn’t buy all of those Marvel books simply because you could, you bought them because you wanted to buy them. Same thing now.
