  • "Spoken as somebody that cares about comics. But the Star Wars guys care about movies." I guess my issue is that I wouldn't see why Disney wouldn't trust you guys with some elements of Star Wars to use in limited but very smart ways with a modicum of input from the Star Wars team. I know where I work we have cross-departmental working groups/projects all the time so that we can tap their resources/talent to better our own product and vice versa. I get creative autonomy but synergy has upside.

    Flip that around: would Marvel want the Star Wars guy to include the Guardians of the Galaxy in the next Star Wars movie without proper oversight? I don’t think so. We’re all pretty good at synergy, but throwing everything together into a creative free-for-all isn’t synergy, it’s chaos. Marvel works because the people involved on all levels understand the Marvel characters and what makes them work intimately. The same is true of Star Wars. And that level of understanding can’t be conveyed in a memo.
