Hey Tom, something has been sort of bothering me. I know this is a weird time to ask, given Scarlet Spider is about to end, but man, Spidey has a really great supporting cast, and it sort of bums me out that they can never support their own books for too long. I don't mean to compare to the any other comic companies, but if the Bat-family can have so many titles, why not Spidey? I'd love to see someone do something fresh and new and longterm with, say, Black Cat.

I don’t know. I’d guess that those assorted Bat-characters are more central to the core mythos than their equivalent Spider-Man characters, so that may have something to do with it. Spidey has traditionally been much more of a loner than Batman, right from teh start. Also, Marvel and DC have different financial structures and different needs and requirements for the books that get published–so one company or the other might continue to publish books that their opposite number would cancel selling at a given level. While you can draw parallels between Spider-Man and Batman, they’re not the same character, and so what works for one won’t necessarily work for the other.
