  • On the whole thing about characters now getting used - have their been cases when a creator has wanted to create a new villain, mutant, whatever and you or another editor have said "hang on, what about using *existingcharacter* who's very similar & will serve the story just as well"?

    Sure, conversations like that happen all the time. But typically, these characters aren’t all that similar except in a superficial way. And really, the Marvel Universe thrives on new characters and new blood, so I’d almost never turn down the opportunity to bring new characters onto the stage. But to point at what Brian is doing, for example, you cannot do the story of new people discovering their powers and learning that they are mutants, and how that affects their lives up till that point, with the Young X-Men. Those characters have already been through those stories previously.
