  • As the guy who - I think? - first coined NINO, I'm sorry it's taken off in such a spectacular(ly) disrespectful fashion. My apologies. But there is still a real frustration on the part of Richard Rider fans who feel that a character who was a Marvel mainstay for over thirty years was let out to dry for no apparent reason. That said, Sam isn't a bad character, but by positioning him as the explicit replacement for Rich, you were setting him up for a lot of resentment and resistance.

You make it sound like this was something we were unaware of or unprepared for. Listen, we killed and replaced Captain America, and right now Otto Octavius is Spider-Man. Clearly we don’t have a problem with doing this sort of thing. I understand and even commend your loyalty to a character that you love. (Though, and speaking as a guy who bought Nova’s earliest appearances fresh off the racks, the notion that he was a “mainstay” for thirty years is a bit ridiculous. I love him too, but he wasn’t appearing regularly for at least half of those thirty years.)
