the short answer is that you need to be able to convince the person hiring that you can best do the job. Beyond that, you need as much practical experience in storytelling and project management as you can get, in whatever form that might take. Anything that might legitimately be applicable would be a benefit. But understand–for every position that opens, there are hundreds of people who’d like to fill it, so it’s not enough to be good enough–you’ve got to be one of the best, and able to prove it.
