The difference is that Phil Coulson is a terrible anti-character with no personality and a deadly lack of charisma, a man-sized void at the center of the AVENGERS franchise. At least if he were named Jasper Sitwell I could pretend it was the same character from the comics who does have a memorable personality and interesting adventures.
