Regarding characters' stories being updated to reflect the changing times, what are some characters (if any) that you believe are tethered to a specific event/era? War-based characters (e.g Cap, Fury & Punisher) seem to be this the most, though I can see the latter two having their stories updated in the same manner that the FF story was. And since I've already mentioned him: any plans for Nick Fury, Sr. in the foreseeable?
There aren’t really that many. The WWII characters, certainly. But even there, if you really wanted to you could eliminate Fury’s WWII-era backstory (it comes into play so infrequently as it is.) The Punisher too could possibly be moved forwards in time to a different conflict, although everybody’s been reluctant to do that–so it’s possible that Vietnam is also too important a part of his backstory to jettison.
