Are there times during your workday when Fan Of Comics Tom is at odds with Senior Executive Of A Comic Book Publisher Tom, and vice-versa? I imagine that you're always thinking of or being shown proposals that you'd love to buy on Wednesday but shouldn't try to publish, and sometimes approving plans that are sound business moves for Marvel but which maybe you're not all that thrilled about as a comics fan. Is it a common industry problem?
I don’t know about a problem, per se, but it is the job. And one of the things you have to realize in order to do the job properly is that you personally do not have to like everything you publish–and, in fact, if you do, and you’ve got a decently-sized line, odds are that you’re narrowcasting to some degree. That said, anything worth doing is worth doing well–so I want even a series that doesn’t appeal to me as a reader to be well-crafted and well put together.
