  • What are the examples of Disney's money showing in the comics? It doesn't appear from the outside looking in that their BILLIONS of dollars resource is being utilized at all. Not even a classic collection, like Dark Phoenix Saga, has been recolored for modern audiences. What I'm trying to say is, that nobody would ever guess that a company with Disney's money owns and publishes Marvel Comics. It feels more like an owner's group who bit off more than they could chew and adhere to a tight budget!

It’s very easy to spend other people’s money on things that maybe you want. But to use the example you set out, what would be the upside of recoloring the Dark Phoenix Saga? Any time we modernize the coloring on a classic story, there are some that really like it and others that completely hate it. So it’s not likely to sell a ton of copies, and almost certainly not enough to make the expense of doing the work worthwhile, for all that you might like to see it presented that way. You also don’t get to be successful in business by throwing your money around willy-nilly. But Disney provides greater worldwide access to publishing resources that we simply did not have anymore, and their assorted consumer products divisions and the like have gone a long way towards making the Marvel characters known and recognizable to people all around the globe, and that’s all stuff that benefits our businesses. It’s not all going to be stuff that a reader from a reader’s point of view is going to be able to detect or even care about–but it’s there and it’s significant regardless.
