Tom, fans say that ULT. SPIDER-MAN is Mr. Bendis' "baby". Many fans feel he would never allow anyone else to pen it/take it over. Some are so cynical that they say he & other Ultimate writers/editors have orchestrated an event to extinguish the entire universe just so he doesn't have to ever pass the series on (according to these self-proclaimed-professionals, Bendis is swamped). Seems a bit selfish? No way that's true, amiright? I love his work, but I can totes see Zeb Wells rocking ULT. SM!

I think it’s certainly fair to say that ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN is Brian’s baby, but the rest is all nonsense. We don’t make our publishing decisions based on not wanting other people to continue on with a successful title were a change warranted–that would be completely self-defeating. We definitely wouldn’t extinguish an entire universe to accomplish something like that.
