  • hulk is a very popular character, even more so since avengers. strange, sub-mariner and surfer are cult favorites, valkyrie has renewed interest as of late. kurt busiek and erik larsen are big names that attract people. so don't spit in my face and tell me releasing a trade collecting busieks 17 issues of defenders isnt viable because nobody would be that interested when conversely you've recently released collections of avengers: the crossing and collections of plethose dreadful 90s venom minis

Here’s the thing, though. People like the Avengers and buy those collections, regardless of who worked on them. People like Venom, and etcetera etcetera. I’m not spitting in anybody’s face, but I am telling you that based on what we’ve seen, DEFENDERS collections aren’t in high demand, and are likely to sell much less than AVENGERS books (regardless of content) or VENOM books (regardless of content.) Doesn’t mean we won’t do such a collection at some point, but it’s not something we’re falling over ourselves to get onto any schedule–there isn’t any particular demand for it, there isn’t any current significance it has in terms of a modern story that would drive sales, and there isn’t any sudden spike in the movement of Kurt or Erik’s collected work for Marvel.
