My summer has been spent catching up on X men from Whedon’s run while reading all the newer comics from AvX up until now. I don’t agree that Cyclops has suddenly been mis-characterized; you all have done an amazing job with him! I see that character as one that evolves enough as a person to feel real but still remains to true enough to his qualities to be timeless. But even Morrison has said that it isn’t the same Cyclops. Why is that opinion so popular and what is yours on Scott now vs. 2004?
I think that any character can evolve, it’s really a question for each reader as to whether they believe in the evolution, and whether they like where it’s taken the character. Cyclops was always my favorite X-Man, and so I don’t always like the things we’ve had him do, but I think that they’ve all been valid storytelling decisions–more valid, for example, than having him abandon his wife and child to hang out with his old girlfriend in X-FACTOR back in the day.
