  • Hi Tom, I was wonder what the process was like for killing off a major character. For example, say Marjorie Liu wanted to kill off Iceman in Astonishing X-men. Could she just do it? Would Nick Lowe have to clear it first? That series also seems like 3rd in the Iceman Hierarchy after All New X-men and Wolverine and the X-men so would Bendis and Aaron have to sign off too? (Please don't kill Iceman, just an e.g. of a major character appearing in a few books)

    Well, for any storyline, you’d need the editor’s okay to do it. But in the case of something like killing off Iceman, you’d want Axel to know about it and sign off on it beforehand as well, along with publisher Dan Buckley and CCO Joe Quesada. Bendis and Aaron wouldn’t have to sign off on it, but they’d definitely have a huge voice in the discussion if they thought that demising the character wasn’t the smart play, or if it loused up what they were planning too much.
