I know you won't read any unsolicited scripts because of legal reasons, but how can I as a comic book writer to-be get your attention? Should I try and publish my own work, try and sell it to a few comic book shops so people would notice me?

You should look to get your work published in whatever venue you can, whether comics or other forms of writing that show off your skill set.
