Mr Brevoort, my favorite artist is John Cassaday. His work on Astonishing X-men and Planetary are a huge joy for me. Is it possible that John could be given a project that would allow him to work at his own pace while not interfering with Marvel's understandable need to follow a monthly release schedule? Perhaps a miniseries with a terrific writer?

I don’t mean this as a knock on John, but as a reality when you’re dealing with creators of any stripe: the surest way not to ever see the project is to not have a deadline. How many projects have been late over the years? How many have been announced and never come out? There are definitely some guys who can self-motivate to the degree that you’re talking about, but the vast majority of them will use infinite time if they’ve got it–either because they’re perfectionists, or because they procrastinate because acing a blank page is daunting, or a million other things. And as soon as you put a deadline on something, then it’s no longer a case of “working at his own pace.” That said, John is much more consistent and steady about being able to generate pages than I think most people give him credit for.
