I don't know if things are what they appear, but I am truly horrified at the idea that the heroes in the Illuminati would ever deliberately destroy another Earth with all its innocent inhabitants, no matter how many lives it would save to do so. I am really hoping things are not how they seem in the preview.
You should be reading NEW AVENGERS. That scene that was previewed for INFINITY has already taken place in that book–and there you can see it in context rather than getting concerned about the preview.
