For the most part, I think Marvel Now has been a compelling re-centering of the Marvel U. Many of the stories being told are visceral, modern, original, and full of heart. However, I feel a general sense of dread surrounding many of my favorite books---the new line is weighty but remarkably lacking in hopefulness (Uncanny Avengers & New Avengers, in particular, are tremendous, but depressing.) Was it an editorial goal of Now! to wrangle more pathos out of the lineup than ever before?

I don’t think so–it may simply be that you’re gravitating to the more serious-minded books. But I think we’ve got a pretty good range of material throughout the Marvel line at the moment. And the Marvel approach is to combine the dramatic with the humorous.
