Tom I think there is a big difference between holding a controversial opinion and actively campaigning against the human rights of a segment of society. But on a related question do you think the advent of social media has made a writer's behaviour/opinions more important to how the audience views them and by association their work than it was say ten years ago? It's hard for me to gauge given the age I was at the time.

I think that it makes it easier for a reader to learn about a creator’s behavior, sure–and everything else that you say stems from that. But each reader is different. It’s possible to enjoy the work but not agree with the author.
