I heard the story about how the terrible series Marville (its so bad I believe it was never reprinted) was made as part of a bet with Peter David over whether it could beat Captain Marvel in sales. However I'm curious to know how Ultimate Adventures, a bland series nobody remembers, got involved in the bet.

MARVILLE was collected, so it certainly was reprinted. And ULTIMATE ADVENTURES got involved because Joe Q saw an opportunity to drum up some promotion for a project that he wanted to do, and jumped into the mix with it.
