Tom, wandering if you could do some clarification for me: Is SHIELD International or a US organization? and if its the latter, there are some depictions of it where its a police agency similar to the FBI, and other (more numerous) ones where its more espionage focused like the CIA/NSA. so does it do both policing&espionage, or is that just what appears to happen after so many creators have gotten their hands on it?

SHIELD is an international organization that happens to be largely based in and staffed by US citizens. So they’ve got the same manner of broad remit as something like, say, UNCLE did to get involved in matters both global and on a smaller scale. It’s one of the benefits of being fictional!
